Of the approximately 10 Chestnut-headed Bee-eater nests that were completed it seemed that only 4-5 produced fully fledged chicks. It is possible the Blue-throated bee-eaters were early arriving and caused some nest abandonment.
To feed the brood insects are vigorously pursued and captured.
A butterfly leaves a trail of 'dust' as it becomes another victim.
Taking food into the remaining Chestnut-headed nest became frenetic in the final two weeks. At least 4 adults were involved in the feeding. This is not uncommon with Bee-eaters generally and community feeding has been observed in 15 out of 26 of the species
Sometimes the incoming birds had to wait their turn on adjacent perches for the nest entrance to clear.
Butterflies were escorted into the nest.
Other helpers waited on the ground nearby.
.....more green insects.....
.....and bees...
